Air Asia is part of a new breed of carriers that are sprouting up in Asia, offering low fares and extra fee options, like food, blanket rental, mouthwash (not kidding), drinks of course, but don't nickel and dime you to death with seat selection charges, bag fees, or carry on charges. What's cool is their menu is on line when you book your ticket, so you can pay for a meal then, then forget you paid extra for it, and it will come right to your seat. And the food is pretty good. If you want to buy a drink on board it's cash only and they take a bunch of different currencies, Taiwan $, Japanese Yen, Aussie $, Malaysian whatever it is, US $, etc. I joked with a flight attendant that they have to be money changer. Interestingly, Ron and I and one other guy are the only non Asians on board and it's a full Airbus A330. We flew Scoot Airlines (same idea) from Japan to Taiwan yesterday, and it was fine, odd name though, eh? Spent one night in Taipei, really just to see a skyscraper, Taipei 101. It's a cool building for a couple of reasons, it was designed according to the principles of feng shui, and has a very heavy tuned damper where at ti 87,88 floor that swings around during earthquakes and typhoons to counter their effects and help to keep the building erect.
